Star Wars Characters Recreated As Minions (Even Jabba The Hutt) In Fantastic New Video

This hilarious Star Wars video sees some of the franchise’s most beloved characters, from Darth Maul to Luke Skywalker, turned into Minions. Star Wars movies and TV shows have undergone a number of changes in recent years, particularly since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker concluded the Skywalker Saga. Despite what a massive shift this signaled in the franchise, many of Star Wars’ best TV shows have been released in the time since, and Star Wars’ upcoming TV shows and new Star Wars movies suggest there is plenty coming down the line in the franchise.

This Star Wars fan video, posted by pabloprompt on X, imagines a very different future for Star Wars, though. In the video, some of Star Wars’ most significant characters, including Princess Leia, Anakin Skywalker, and even Jabba the Hutt, are turned into Minions from the Minions and Despicable Me franchises.

The short animation, referred to as “Banana Wars” in the post, is obviously done in good fun, but it does reflect some interesting truths about Star Wars’ past, present, and future.

“Banana Wars” Shows The Abiding Love For Star Wars

Seeing Darth Maul in the shape of a Minion is undeniably hilarious, but this video also reveals how much Star Wars continues to permeate pop culture. When A New Hope (then just called Star Wars) debuted in 1977, few could have imagined what the franchise would become in a few short years. Movies like The Empire Strikes Back have had incredible staying power, with “No, I am your father” jokes popping up in countless movies, TV shows, and other forms of media far beyond the Star Wars franchise.

Even in recent years, with backlash against Star Wars and division in the fanbase seeming louder than ever, the legacy of this franchise endures. This Minions video may have been created in jest, but in truth, it suggests that despite disappointing events such as The Acolyte’s cancelation, Star Wars is not going away anytime soon. The franchise may be in a bit of a transitional period, particularly as it seems to approach a new era defined by the Mandalorian timeline, but Star Wars’ influence remains as clear as it ever was.

Will There Be A Sequel Trilogy “Banana Wars?”

This “Banana Wars” video truly is brilliant, but there are some notable Star Wars faces absent from it. Finn, Poe Dameron, Kylo Ren, and Rey, the main players in the sequel trilogy, have yet to make their own Minion appearances. The sequel trilogy remains a hot button issue in the franchise, although a number of Star Wars’ best characters debuted in those movies. It would be equally delightful to see them depicted in this style of animation.

Whether “Banana Wars” gets a sequel or not, though, this creative Minions video really is a reminder of how influential Star Wars is. The characters, imagery, storylines, and concepts from Star Wars remain beloved and a major part of popular culture today. In spite of current tensions and questions about what is coming next in the franchise, there is plenty of hope for Star Wars’ future.
