New Paddington in Peru images offer a closer look at Olivia Colman’s music-loving nun and at Emily Mortimer, who has replaced Sally Hawkins in the role of Mary Brown. Hawkins decided to exit the franchise in order to pursue other opportunities and pass on the role to a new actor. Paddington in Peru‘s story will see the lovable Paddington (Ben Whishaw) and the Brown family going to visit Aunt Lucy (Imelda Staunton) in Peru, and ending up on a quest searching for her.
Studiocanal has now shared images featuring Paddington, the Brown family, Colman’s Reverend Mother playing the guitar, and Antonio Banderas’ character, Hunter Cabot. Check out the images below:
The guitar-playing Reverend Mother helps run the Retired Home for Bears where Aunt Lucy has settled, only to inform Paddington that his aunt has gone off on a quest. Banderas’ character is a charming boat captain who will aid Paddington and the Browns during their adventures.
What Each Image Means For Paddington In Peru
Paddington In Peru Looks Like A Charming Sequel
The first image features Paddington wearing his trademark red hat and blue rain jacket, and he is prepared for inclement weather as he carries a black umbrella. It is nice to see the entire Brown family together in the second image and to know that Paddington’s adoptive family will be helping him find his aunt. Mortimer already looks like a natural replacement for Hawkins, while the Brown children, Judy (Madeleine Harris) and Jonathan (Samuel Joslin) look noticeably older, which is to be expected since the all-time great Paddington 2 had its theatrical debut in late 2017 and early 2018.
The third image teases the joyous, music-filled environment of the Retired Home for Bears as the Reverend Mother and her fellow nuns play their various instruments. Banderas’ boat captain, seen standing on a bridge, comes across as charming in the fourth image as he does in the trailer. The fifth image shows that the Browns’ live-in housekeeper, Mrs. Bird (Julie Walters) is also joining the trip to Peru, and is sure to bring more delightful comedy to the story. The final image shows director Dougal Wilson, who is sure to continue the franchise’s wholesome tone in his feature film debut.
Our Take On Paddington In Peru’s New Images
Paddington In Peru Will Be Worth The Wait
The new images have made me even more excited about Paddington in Peru. There is an enticing blend of new and familiar characters in a location that has been mostly unexplored with the two previous Paddington movies taking place in London. It will be an effective change of pace to have Paddington be more in his element, all while he and the Browns continue to learn valuable life lessons. Colman’s character in particular seems like a perfect fit for the franchise’s joyful eccentricities. Paddington in Peru appears to have the potential to be another family-friendly hit.
