The upcoming Looney Tunes film The Day The Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie is set to be released in 2025. The film will star Daffy Duck and Porky Pig, who must stop an alien invasion. The movie was directed by Pete Browngardt, who also developed the Looney Tunes Cartoons TV series for Max.
According to Deadline, The Day The Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie will be released in theaters on February 28, 2025. Unlike previous Looney Tunes films, which were distributed by Warner Bros., this one will be distributed by Ketchup Entertainment. A statement from Ketchup Entertainment’s CEO Gareth West about the film can be found below:
For generations, the Looney Tunes have held a soft spot in the hearts of fans the world over, including my own. It’s a true pleasure to bring into theaters Peter Browngardt’s hilariously smart, emotional, and gorgeously rendered story for fans and movie lovers of all ages to experience a wholly new and original cinematic adventure with our friends, Porky and Daffy.
What The Release Date Means For The Looney Tunes Franchise
Fans Will Be Able To See This Looney Tunes Movie, Unlike Coyote Vs. Acme
The release of The Day The Earth Blew Up is coming at an important time for the franchise after the cancellation of Coyote vs. Acme. Coyote vs. Acme was another film that was scrapped as a tax-write off by Warner Bros. in November 2023, just like Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt were in August 2022. Although Coyote vs. Acme will likely never be released, the announcement for the release date for The Day The Earth Blew Up shows that viewers will actually be able to watch this Looney Tunes movie.

Looney Tunes’ New Movie Is Exactly What I Need After Coyote vs. Acme’s Heartbreaking Cancelation
The cancelation of Coyote vs. Acme is still tragic, and I believe that this new Looney Tunes movie can prove why it was a huge mistake.
The Day The Earth Blew Up is also notable for being the first fully animated Looney Tunes feature film to be released in theaters. In the past, the Looney Tunes had to share the screen with live-action co-stars, like Michael Jordan in Space Jam or Brendan Fraser in Looney Tunes: Back in Action. Prior to those films, theatrical Looney Tunes movies were compilations built around classic shorts like The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Movie. However, there have been a few fully animated Looney Tunes movies that were released direct-to-video.
Our Take On The Release Date Of The Day The Earth Blew Up
A Reassuring Sign For The Future Of These Classic Characters
After the cancellation of Coyote vs. Acme, having an official release date for The Day The Earth Blew Up is a reassuring sign that the movie will be released. Having a new theatrical animated Looney Tunes movie also opens the door to more possibilities in the future for some of the most popular cartoon characters of all time.
The Day The Earth Blew Up having a theatrical release also means that Daffy and Porky will return to their original home on the big screen. While many people now remember watching the classic shorts on television, the Looney Tunes shorts were originally released in theaters. By putting the movie in theaters, fans will be able to watch Daffy and Porky where they were originally created to be seen.
