After four movie appearances across the Jurassic Park franchise, Jeff Goldblum addresses Ian Malcolm’s future in Jurassic World Rebirth and beyond. Helmed by Godzilla and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story director Gareth Edwards, the fourth installment in the revived franchise and seventh overall movie sees a team dispatched to recover rare genetic prehistoric material that could lead to life-changing pharmaceutical advancements. The 2025 sequel stars Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, and Rupert Fried as all-new Jurassic World Rebirth characters.
With principal photography wrapped on Jurassic World Rebirth, Goldblum was asked by Total Film about whether one of the original survivors of the Isla Nublar incident could make one more comeback in the drastically altered world. While the actor made a return in Jurassic World Dominion, Goldblum ruled out any further appearances for Ian Malcolm in Rebirth and any other future installments, stating that he feels the character has earned his ending.
I think Ian Malcolm may have ridden off into the sunset. Maybe.
Despite this, Goldblum instead turned his attention to the new additions to the franchise. He looked forward to seeing what Johansson and Wicked co-star Bailey would bring to the franchise.
Because this next one — my friend, Scarlett Johansson, and my new friend, Jonathan Bailey from ‘Wicked,’ I think, are taking up the reins. And I can’t wait to see what they do. I think that’s a good idea.
Jurassic World Rebirth Will Kick Off A New Era With New Leads
With Goldblum ruling out any future appearances in the Jurassic World franchise, Jurassic World Dominion will be viewed as the final send-off for his character. In the movie, Malcolm turns on his current employers at Biosyn after uncovering a conspiracy to corner the market on the world’s food supply, testifying against the company in the movie’s closing moments.
