James Gunn Addresses Twisters BTS Video Showing The Cast’s Reaction To David Corenswet Getting Superman Role

DC Universe boss James Gunn has addressed the Twisters cast’s reaction video to the news that David Corenswet had been cast as Superman. Corenswet was going through the casting process to become the new Superman while he was filming scenes for this summer’s hit movie Twisters. The cast of the film was ecstatic to learn that Corenswet won the part and would lead Gunn’s Superman movie, and all that excitement was caught on camera in a sweet behind-the-scenes video.

On Threads, James Gunn shared his thoughts on the behind-the-scenes video of the Twisters cast being happy that David Corenswet would lead the DCU’s Superman reboot.

Gunn responded to the video by saying, “This is touching.” Multiple Twisters cast members, like Glen Powell, who is a DCU fan-favorite for many superhero roles, and Daisy Edgar-Jones, showed their support by jumping around in happiness and honking car horns to celebrate Corenswet’s major achievement. While none of his Twisters co-stars are in the cast of the Superman reboot, Twisters stars like Powell could still join the DCU in the future.

What David Corenswet’s Twisters Cast Members Have Said About Him Getting Superman

The Cast Spoke About Corenswet As Superman Before The BTS Video Came Out

On Twitter, @DCWorldTelugu shared a video of Glen Powell explaining the circumstances behind the BTS video. According to the actor, Corenswet called his Twisters co-stars to reveal that he had been cast as Superman, which is when they all started to freak out on camera. Powell was one of the first to comment on the news when Corenswet’s Superman casting was announced to the world. On Instagram (via @homeofdcu/Twitter), the actor shared James Gunn’s post about the casting, saying, “My hero. You’re gonna crush it.”

Twisters director Lee Isaac Chung also commented on Corenswet’s Superman casting. Speaking to the Inside Total Film podcast, Chung said, “There’s this genuine purity to him, in a weird way, that I feel fits in a lot with Superman.” The director also commented on how Corenswet stays within the characters he plays for a little while before moving on, and so his Superman “aura” was felt on the Twisters set after he came back from a round of auditions. When Corenswet returned, Chung says he thought the actor got the role because of how he just felt like Superman.

In the Twisters gag reel, there is a funny moment where Corenswet goes back into a car to say he forgot his keys. Anthony Ramos then asks, “Why is Clark Kent yelling at me?” The moment and the reaction video to the Superman casting news show how tight the Twisters cast is. With the DCU only starting, there will be enough projects for Twisters stars to join the franchise and interact with David Corenswet’s Superman.
