Inside Out 2‘s Disney+ release date has been revealed. The movie is a sequel to the 2015 Pixar movie exploring the anthropomorphized emotions inside the head of pre-teen girl Riley. The Inside Out 2 cast includes returning stars Amy Poehler as Joy and Phyllis Smith as Sadness, though it also features new characters including Anxiety (Maya Hawke) and Envy (Ayo Edebiri) as well as characters with newly recast voices such as Fear (Tony Hale, originally Bill Hader), Disgust (Liza Lapira, originally Mindy Kaling), and Riley (Kensington Tallman, originally Kaitlyn Dias).
Disney+ has announced that Inside Out 2 will officially premiere on the streaming service on September 25. This release will come just three months and 11 days after the movie’s wide theatrical premiere on June 14. This also gives a wide berth to the next Disney+ premiere of a Pixar property, which is the streaming exclusive series Win or Lose, set to debut on the platform on December 6.

The Sequel’s Time In The Spotlight Is Over
While it is possible that this Disney+ premiere date has been planned since before the Inside Out 2 release hit theaters, it does signify the end of an era. The movie’s jump to subscription streaming on top of its premium VOD and physical media release, which has already taken place, accompanies the tail end of its theatrical release. At the time of writing, it is still playing in theaters, though the number of theaters playing the movie has dwindled to less than 1,000.

The Inside Out 2 box office has been a consistent powerhouse since the movie premiered in June. The Movie Has Further Opportunities To Thrive
Even as its theatrical window draws to a close, Inside Out 2 will be finding a brand-new audience in late September when it hits streaming, potentially prolonging its run as one of the year’s defining animated hits. This extended release pattern could be very good for Pixar, because they have no new movies set to come to theaters until June 2025 with the premiere of Adrian Molina, Madeline Sharafian, and Domee Shi’s Elio. The continued success of the 2024 sequel may not buoy them into next summer, but it could very well carry them through the end of the year.
