Bodies Bodies Bodies‘ star Chase Sui Wonders may be returning to the horror genre to potentially take on Camilla Mendes’ I Know What You Did Last Summer movie reboot role following the Riverdale star’s exit. The upcoming movie is a return to the franchise first established with the 1997 slasher movie, which explored four teens stalked by a killer who claims to know of a horrible act they committed. The I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise currently encompasses two theatrical movies, a direct-to-DVD sequel, and a single-season Prime Video series released in 2021.
Though Riverdale‘s Mendes has exited I Know What You Did Last Summer to enter Eternia in Travis Knight’s Masters of the Universe reboot, another rising star may have been found for her role. According to Deadline, Wonders, known for her role as aspiring actor Emma in the 2022 horror comedy Bodies Bodies Bodies, is currently in talks to take on the role. In Bodies Bodies Bodies, Wonders starred alongside The Acolyte‘s Amandla Stenberg, Bottoms‘ Rachel Sennott, and Pete Davidson as a group of young people whose game turns into a frantic hunt for a potential killer.
Who Else Is Starring In I Know What You Did Last Summer’s Reboot?
It Is Unclear How Many Original Characters Will Return.
Announced in 2023, I Know What You Did Last Summer‘s revival will take inspiration from Scream‘s 2022 revival, bringing together a new cast of young up-and-coming stars alongside the actors who helped establish the series. Helmed by franchise newcomer Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, the young cast of teens thus far includes Glass Onion‘s Madelyn Cline, The Little Mermaid‘s Jonah Hauer-King, The Wild‘s Sarah Pidgeon, and Atlanta‘s Tyriq Wither. To carry on threads established by the 1998 sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. are expected to reprise their roles of Julie and Ray.
However, with I Know What You Did Last Summer confirmed to pick up threads from its 1998 sequel, it remains to be seen whether the series’ killer will make a third reappearance. Portrayed by Muse Watson, Ben Willis was last seen attacking Julie in the sequel’s final jumpscare, though this decision could easily be explained as a dream just like what the original movie’s final moments were retconned to be. With over 20 years passing and Ben having lost his son in pursuit of Julie and Ray, the sequel may see him target their children out of vengeance.
I Still Know What You Did Last Summer‘s Brandy is also reportedly in talks to return for the legacy sequel.
Though Mendes’ past work with Robinson in Do Revenge does make her departure feel like a missed opportunity for a reunion, Wonders is still an excellent fit for the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot. Not only does she have experience in the genre from the aforementioned Bodies Bodies Bodies and Daniel Isn’t Real, but the feature continues in the footsteps of the original in bringing together a cast of up-and-coming stars for the feature. With Wonders seemingly set to join the production, a filming start on the revival may not be too far behind.
