Ginny Weasley actor Bonnie Wright shares whether she is interested in joining the cast of the upcoming Harry Potter television series. His Dark Materials and Succession‘s Francesca Gardiner is the showrunner and an executive producer, while Game of Thrones and The Menu‘s Mark Mylod is attached to direct several episodes. HBO’s Harry Potter show has been teased to be a more faithful adaptation of the Harry Potter books, with each season dedicated to a different installment in the series.
While speaking with People, Wright was asked if she would be interested in reprising her role as Ginny in the Harry Potter series. Her response was “Never say never, never say no. I would be [open], I’m ready.” This makes it clear that while Wright is open-minded about one day returning to the Wizarding World franchise, she is not currently involved in the HBO series, but remains open-minded about future possibilities as her career continues to expand.
The Harry Potter Series Should Not Use Any Stars From The Movies
The Series Should Feature An Entirely New Cast
While the idea of seeing Wright, Daniel Radcliffe, and other original Harry Potter cast members in the series is tempting, it would be best for the HBO show to feature an entirely new cast. In the cases of characters like Ginny and Harry Potter, the original stars would not work anyway, as the series is going to begin by adapting Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, when Ginny is 10 years old and Harry turns 11 years old. New child stars who are able to play the characters over the course of seven seasons need to be cast.

It would be more feasible to cast actors who played adult characters in the films, including Maggie Smith as Professor Minerva McGonagall or Ralph Fiennes as Lord Voldemort. This should still be avoided, though, as the television series needs to forge its own identity that is separate from the beloved films. Comparisons between the adaptations are inevitable, and do not need to be furthered by debates about whether Smith, Fiennes, or other adult actors delivered a better performance in the film or the series.
Harry Potter initially defined the careers of Radcliffe, Wright, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, and the films’ other young stars, and they will always be associated with the Wizarding World, but they have since moved on to other pursuits, from social activism to becoming a Tony Award-winning Broadway star. It is now time for Harry Potter to change the lives of a new set of young actors and launch them into stardom. Without an entirely new cast, HBO’s Harry Potter will be left in the shadow of the films.
