Raava64’s Belle Beauty & The Beast cosplay adds a seasonal twist to the beloved Disney princess’ iconic gown that makes her ready for the coming winter season. A booksmart girl from a small provincial town in France voiced by Paige O’Hara in 1991’s beloved animated movie, Belle finds herself an unwilling guest of the Beast (Robby Benson), but soon learns the tragic mistake that led to his transformation, helping him become more human as time progresses. Emma Watson took on the role of Belle in 2017’s live-action Beauty and the Beast, for which she earned generally positive reviews.
With the tale as old as time remaining as iconic as ever to this day, cosplayer and streamer raava64 shared her own twist to the Beauty & the Beast character’s most recognizable outfit on Reddit.
Raava64 perfectly captures the appearance of Belle, with her delicate and graceful golden gown and all of its layered details. However, the winter backdrops and coat add a unique twist to the costume, helping it stand out and showcase the crafting skills of the Disney cosplayer.
Belle’s Gown Is One Of Disney’s Most Complicated Princess Outfits
Belle’s Dress Faced Many Complications In Animation and Live-Action
While an anachronistic mix of styles that had to be fought for by Beauty & the Beast‘s art director Brian McEntee, Belle’s dress has became one of the most recognizable outfits among Disney’s entire roster of princesses. A physical representation of Belle’s growth as she opened up as a person and showed her warmth, McEntee resisted calls by Disney’s marketing department to make the gown pink or lavender to better fit with what they felt young girls would be drawn to. With the stunning visuals of Belle and the Beast’s dance, the costume has a special place in many’s hearts.
However, the status of Belle’s dress would later cause trouble for Disney when bringing the tale into reality in Beauty & The Beast’s live-action adaptation. While Academy Award-winning costume designer Jacqueline Durran was given the difficult task of redesigning a realistic rendition of the gown, the real-world costume was met with a divisive response, attracting praise for capturing its appearance, though the realistic textures and muted hues failed to help the dress stand out. Nevertheless, the original costume’s design has endured to this day as an unshakable piece of Disney iconography.
Belle’s gown is an iconic design that even those who haven’t watched the movie will recognize, and Raava64’s recreation is just as eye-catching as the original. The background helps the gown take up greater focus against the white snow, highlighting its many elegant details. As such, Raava64’s loving Beauty & The Beast recreation perfectly brings an iconic piece of Disney history to life.
