Bad Boys: Ride or Die‘s streaming release date has now been revealed. Directed Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, the fourth installment in the popular Bad Boys franchise sees Will Smith and Martin Lawrence return as detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, respectively, this time to clear their late captain’s name. Bad Boys: Ride or Die reviews were generally positive from critics and audiences alike, and, after a strong theatrical run, the film became available to watch on VOD on July 23.
Now, a new listing on Netflix reveals that Bad Boys: Ride or Die will become available to stream on the site starting on October 8, 2024. This puts the film’s streaming release almost exactly four months after it first hit theaters on June 7, 2024. The fourth installment will join fellow franchise titles Bad Boys (1995) and Bad Boys II (2003) on the service, but the third installment, Bad Boys for Life (2020), is on Hulu.
What Bad Boys: Ride Or Die’s Theatrical Performance Means For The Franchise
Is Bad Boys 5 On The Way?
Bad Boys: Ride or Die‘s Rotten Tomatoes score sits at a somewhat lukewarm 65% from critics, but the film played very well with audiences and currently sports 97%. This strong audience response is reflected in the movie’s box office performance. Made on an estimated budget of $100 million, Bad Boys: Ride or Die grossed $403.9 million worldwide, making the project an undeniable hit. This box office success is in addition to Bad Boys: Ride or Die topping VOD charts in July.
Bad Boys 5 is not yet confirmed, but both Smith and Lawrence have expressed interest in returning. El Arbi and Fallah have similarly teased their return, expressing interest in seeing the franchise “go international” in an interview with Screen Rant. The positive reviews and stellar box office performance means another adventure for Mike and Marcus is essentially guaranteed.
As for when a fifth film could be confirmed, it’s possible that an announcement could arrive before the end of the year. It seems like a stretch that filming on a potential Bad Boys 5 would begin in 2025, with 2026 seeming more likely. If that’s the case, then another sequel could potentially hit movie theater screens in 2027.
Our Take On Bad Boys: Ride Or Die’s Streaming Release
The Film Is Sure To Be Popular On Netflix
Since the most recent Bad Boys movie has been a hit on theaters and on VOD, it’ll likely be a hit on streaming. There’s clearly a lot of audience love for characters like Mike and Marcus, but also for Smith and Lawrence. After finding success with Bad Boys for Life as well, El Arbi and Fallah are also clearly a good fit for the franchise, and the Bad Boys: Ride or Die ending certainly leaves the door open for another film.
Bad Boys 5 seems inevitable at this point, and as long as the audience demand is there, there’s no reason to believe the franchise couldn’t go beyond that. Bad Boys: Ride or Die finds the franchise’s perfect balance of action and comedy, and, as long as future installments can continue to capture this, more adventures with Mike and Marcus could be welcome.
