The creative team behind Terrifier 3 dropped another horror film, Stream, on VOD streaming platforms after the low-budget slasher film’s box office success. Despite receiving controversial reviews, Terrifier 3 scored $18.3 million at the box office during the opening weekend against its modest $2 million budget. The film had a limited theatrical run in August and follows a family of four being involved in a sadistic game of cat-and-mouse while being broadcast across the world.
According to Variety, Stream is now available to rent or purchase on video-on-demand. Damien Loene serves as a producer on the crowdfunded project. With Terrifier 3 gaining love among horror fans, director Michael Leavy promised that Stream offers “the chance to continue to fill that gore love right away” from the same team. Check out his comment below:
Today ‘Stream’ is making its way to all audiences with a much wider digital release on VOD streaming platforms. The reviews have been incredibly humbling and we are so excited to give our loyal fans the ultimate experience! After seeing ‘Terrifier 3’ in theaters they now have the chance to continue to fill that gore love right away and get more from our team and Damien Leone in having the chance to see ‘Stream’ from the comfort of their own home, before going back to see ‘Terrifier 3’ again in theaters of course.
What This Means For Horror Fans
Terrifier 3 Brings Attention To An Underrated Slasher Film
By making the film available, horror fans now have access to a film that was previously unavailable. It seems that Terrifier 3‘s success has a direct impact on making the digital distribution of Stream a reality. It was recently revealed that Terrifier 3 was rejected by studios and distributors, which would also explain why a similar extreme slasher film like Stream would only receive a limited theatrical run in the first place. The movie was also partially crowdfunded, a necessity due to increased costs due to COVID-19.

With Stream heading toward the streaming platforms, Terrifier 3 is paving the way for more overlooked horror movies to reach a broader audience. The news also seems to imply that due to Terrifier 3‘s success, gory slasher films have sparked interest. With the independent success of the Terrifier franchise, similar films are now in demand. Stream has also been well-received by audiences, holding a 95% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Our Take on Stream
Gory and Sadistic
Since its release, critics have frequently compared Stream to Terrifier 2 with the obvious reason that the film was made by the same team. While there’s no killer clown in Stream, the film offers a similar level of gore and sadistic violence along with an overall gist that would appeal to Terrifier 3 viewers.
The underrated film also features many familiar faces, including genre-fan favorites Bill Moseley, Felissa Rose, and Tony Todd. Like Terrifier 3, Stream takes a nostalgic approach to horror and gore that feels fresh under the modern eyes. Similar to the Terrifier franchise, the film also doesn’t dive into the backstory of the game, maintaining its mystery to have viewers put the puzzle pieces together.
