New fan art imagines Andrew Garfield reprising his role of Spider-Man in Venom: The Last Dance, opposite Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock and a surprising character who has recently been rumored to debut in the MCU. Scheduled to release on October 25, 2024, Venom: The Last Dance will be the latest installment in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. Despite its name, Sony’s Marvel franchise has come under fire for not actually featuring any version of Peter Parker’s Spider-Man, but this could change in Venom: The Last Dance.
After Tom Hardy made his MCU debut in Spider-Man: No Way Home’s post-credits scene, theories emerged suggesting Tom Holland’s Spider-Man could appear in Venom: The Last Dance. While this crossover is possible, new fan art shared by arifinity suggests that it could actually be Andrew Garfield’s wall-crawler joining Brock in his upcoming adventure. Garfield, alongside Tobey Maguire, reprised his role from The Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel in No Way Home to huge acclaim. This art also features an appearance from Felicity Jones’ Black Cat, hinting at a connection to The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
What Andrew Garfield’s Possible Spider-Man Return Means For Venom: The Last Dance
It Would Be A Shame For Venom & Spider-Man To Never Meet On-Screen
It has been a huge point of contention that Sony’s Spider-Man Universe has now been running for six years without debuting its own version of Peter Parker’s Spider-Man. This is especially true as many of Spider-Man’s most iconic enemies from Marvel Comics have been seen in the franchise, including Morbius, the upcoming Kraven the Hunter and Venom himself. Venom: The Last Dance has been confirmed to be Tom Hardy’s final solo SSU movie, which means time is running out for Spider-Man and Venom to actually come together on-screen.
Since he reprised his role of Peter Parker’s Spider-Man in the MCU’s No Way Home, many have wanted Andrew Garfield to return for more adventures as the wall-crawler. Garfield initially played Spider-Man in Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man duology, which was originally intended to kick-start a new shared universe, but these plans fell through after The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Garfield’s Spider-Man returning in Venom: The Last Dance could reignite these plans, while also finally seeing Venom and Spider-Man on-screen together, which could actually boost interest in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe itself.
Our Take On Andrew Garfield Returning As Spider-Man
Andrew Garfield Has Been Heavily Rumored To Return As Spider-Man
Andrew Garfield being revealed to be the Peter Parker of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe would perhaps cause a great deal of confusion, especially since Madame Web confirmed that Parker was born in 2003, which would have made him nine-years-old during 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man. It’s possible that Sony could simply retcon some of these events, particularly given the animosity aimed at Madame Web. This could see Venom: The Last Dance confirm Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man in the SSU, which creates the perfect opportunity for the beloved actor to reprise his role without damaging the MCU’s own Spider-Man narrative.
