DCEU actress Amy Adams shares her thoughts on Rachel Brosnahan being cast as the new Lois Lane in James Gunn’s DC Universe for the Superman movie. 2023 served as the year that officially ended the DCEU movie timeline that began in 2013 with Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. As a new Superman movie is arriving next year for Gunn’s DC Universe, David Corenswet will be playing the next Man of Steel while Brosnahan is taking on the iconic role of Lois Lane.
In a new feature interview with Variety, Adams talked about Gunn’s DC Universe, which will feature Brosnahan as the next live-action version of intrepid Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane. The former DCEU star had nothing but praise for Brosnahan playing Lois in the Superman film, as Adams shared the following:
I love her. She’s gonna be great. Hopefully the role will be infused with her sensibility and her natural humor and strength and wit.
While the DC Universe audience has yet to see Brosnahan as Lois, her casting for Gunn’s Superman movie was one of the most well-received announcements for the reboot. With the critical acclaim that she received for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, it’s no surprise that a fellow actor like Adams is a fan of her work. Adams’ comments, however, also show that she is thrilled about another actress getting the chance to play Lois Lane on the big screen.
In general, whenever a new star is given the opportunity to portray Lois, the actors who came before them have always been pretty supportive of the torch being passed. Adams even mentioned in the same interview with Variety that as someone who is “coming from theater, a role never belongs to you. You just do a take on it. That’s how I feel about that franchise.” With Brosnahan being cast as Lois in the DC Universe’s Chapter 1, Gods and Monsters, she becomes another actor to join the character’s ever-growing media legacy.
Even though it’s sad that Adams’ time as Lois never had a proper conclusion, it’s still wonderful to see her support for Brosnahan, who will carry on the legacy of the beloved Daily Planet reporter on the big screen. Hopefully, if Gunn’s DC Universe ends up being successful, Brosnahan will get to play Lois for many years to come. As 2024 gets closer to its end, it will hopefully not be much longer until the first Superman trailer is finally released to the world and reveals a first look at Brosnahan’s Lois Lane.
