Another John Wick Spinoff With Returning Character Gets Promising Response From Chad Stahelski

A John Wick spinoff with a returning character gets a promising update from director Chad Stahelski. After launching a decade ago, the John Wick franchise has been well-received, with Keanu Reeves leading the series as the titular protagonist. It has since spawned spinoffs, including the Peacock limited series The Continental and the upcoming 2025 film Ballerina. Stahelski directed all four movies in the main series, while Len Wiseman helmed Ballerina.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Stahelski commented on the likelihood of one particular John Wick spinoff. The director was asked whether a spinoff about Halle Berry’s character Sophia would happen. He responded positively, saying “I’d work with Halle any chance I got.” While he did say concretely that a Berry-led spinoff is in development, he mentioned that the star is “always on [their] mind” and called her “awesome.” Check out the full quote from Stahelski below:

I’d work with Halle any chance I got. She’s always on our mind. There really isn’t anybody from the John Wicks that we don’t love and wouldn’t try to bring back in one of the other mediums that we try to do. She’s awesome.

Berry Is Also Enthusiastic About This Spinoff

Berry was introduced in John Wick: Chapter 3 as an assassin named Sofia, who assists John after the titular character helps save her daughter’s life. Despite being a critical part of this film and surviving to its end, she did not return in John Wick: Chapter 4, leaving her storyline unresolved. This has since circulated interest and demand for a spinoff based on her character, particularly her whereabouts since Casablanca.

The John Wick films and spinoffs have been released over a span of ten years. The In-universe storyline has a surprisingly shorter timeline.

Stahelski’s statement comes after Berry recently expressed interest in continuing Sofia’s story. The actor stated, “we’ve talked about a spinoff with Lionsgate that could potentially happen.” She also restated her love of Sofia as a character, noting that exploring her “would’ve been a good storyline.” However, there have yet to be any major developments in a Sophia-center spinoff, so it may not be a huge priority at the moment.

Our Take On This John Wick Spinoff Idea

A Sofia Spinoff Could Take The Franchise In An Interesting Direction

While the abundance of John Wick spinoffs would suggest that a Sofia movie is not arriving any time soon, I think it could be a great idea for the franchise. As it stands, John Wick has been a pretty male-dominated franchise. However, they are already parting from this trend by centering on Ana de Armas’ character in Ballerina, so making a movie about Sofia would continue this feminine momentum. A lot of female assassin movies end up disappointing, but with Stahelski’s skill in the genre, woman-led John Wick spinoffs have better chances to succeed.
