Wolf Man has a new official trailer via New York Comic Con. The upcoming Wolf Man is the latest reboot of a classic Universal monster from Blumhouse and Leigh Whannell, the studio and director behind 2020’s critical and commercial hit The Invisible Man. The new movie follows a man named Blake (Christopher Abbott) who inherits his father’s Oregon farmhouse after his disappearance. When he visits with his wife Charlotte (Julia Garner) and daughter Ginger (Matlida Firth), he is attacked by an animal and his family is trapped overnight between dangers outside and inside as he begins a monstrous transformation.
Universal Pictures has now released the official trailer for Wolf Man at New York Comic Con. The trailer opens on a harrowing scene of Blake and his family in a moving truck that is lying sideways on the road after an accident, where he is attacked while stuck in the driver’s seat. The remainder of the trailer follows his slow transformation and Charlotte’s increasingly desperate attempts to survive. Watch the trailer below:
What The New Trailer Means For Wolf Man
Many New Details Have Come To Light
While the original Wolf Man teaser hinted that there would be family strife at the center of the movie, the full trailer showcases what an ordeal they will be forced through as a result of his transformation. Over the course of one harrowing night, the movie promises to push them to the limit as the patriarch who has promised to protect them becomes an inhuman threat. It is unclear if the wolf man glimpsed through a car windshield in the final shot is the original beast or the transformed Blake, but either way, it seems that they’re in grave danger.

The trailer also reveals how director Leigh Whannell is going to elevate the material even further with his filmmaking choices. Multiple shots highlight the perspective of Blake as he transforms and becomes more and more divorced from the human world, using lighting and color to create a sort of abstract space where he is trapped as he undergoes his transformation.

Leigh Whannell Presents Another Twist On A Classic
Ultimately, it seems that Whannell is applying quite a few of the successful elements of the Invisible Man to Wolf Man. This includes centering on the story of a female character played by a popular actor from a streaming series (Ozark and Inventing Anna‘s Julia Garner steps in for The Handmaid’s Tale‘s Elisabeth Moss here). He is also presenting a twist on the original premise that highlights visceral terror, this time crafting a siege movie rather than focusing on the emotional plight of the titular monster, as is usually the case in prior movies in the franchise.
