Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is a major hit on VOD after achieving box office success in theaters. Directed once again by Tim Burton, the follow-up to 1988’s Beetlejuice features the return of Michael Keaton as Betelgeuse, Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz, and Catherine O’Hara as Delia Deetz. The film follows three generations of the Deetz family as they return to the town of Winter River when Astrid Deetz (Jenna Ortega), Lydia’s daughter, accidentally opens a portal to the Afterlife. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice reviews were mostly positive from critics and the film was a box office success, grossing just over $421 million worldwide.
New data from IndieWire now reveals that Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is the number one title on VOD on both iTunes and Fandango at Home following its digital release on October 8. The iTunes data is for Monday, October 14, while the Fandango data covers the week of October 7 – 13. The sequel beats out the MCU’s latest box office smash, Deadpool & Wolverine (2024), as well as other titles like Twisters (2024) and Speak No Evil (2024).
While there is a lot of overlap between the two charts, there are some outliers. Longlegs (2024) and Blink Twice (2024), for example, appear only on the iTunes chart, while titles like Hellboy: The Crooked Man (2024), The Forge (2024), and Never Let Go (2024) only chart on Fandango. It’s interesting, too, that the only non-2024 title included is the original Beetlejuice, which comes in at number 10 on the iTunes chart. Check out the two VOD charts below:

What Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’s VOD Success Means For The Film
Will There Be A Beetlejuice 3?
Burton’s Beetlejuice sequel was made on an estimated budget of about $100 million. At this price point, the film was likely looking at a break-even point of between $200 million and $250 million, both of which it clearly surpassed. The fact that the film is now also a VOD success as it continues playing in theaters speaks to the enduring appeal of Burton’s fantastical world and Keaton’s chaotic lead character.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has also been well-received and features a respectable 77% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and an 80% from audiences. The original, by contrast, features an 83% and 82%, respectively. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice‘s impressive cast is certainly part of the film’s appeal, but the quality of the storytelling and performances are clearly giving the film longevity both in theaters and at home. The fact that both films in Burton’s franchise are charting suggests there would be likely be audience interest in a third installment, and Warner Bros. is probably also keen on expanding the franchise.
Though Keaton has affirmed that he would return for a potential Beetlejuice 3, Burton is seemingly less open to expanding the franchise, telling Total Film, “I don’t know,” with the publication describing that he “noticeably squirms at the suggestion.”
Our Take On Beetlejuice 2’s VOD Success
Should The Sequel Be The End Of The Franchise?
It’s not surprising that Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is a hit on VOD, but it is notable that it dethroned Deadpool & Wolverine, which grossed a whopping $1.335 billion. Though the MCU film did release more than a month before Burton’s film in theaters, it only became available on VOD on October 1, about a week earlier.
Burton and Keaton have evidently created a world and a character that appeals to audiences, and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice‘s success both in theaters and on VOD means that Warner Bros. would surely be keen on revisiting the franchise. Any film made without Burton, however, would surely not be the same, and perhaps it’s best that the latest sequel serves as the conclusion to Betelgeuse’s story.
