Matt Smith and Austin Butler are seen on set of Caught Stealing in new set videos and photos. Caught Stealing is an upcoming thriller about a former baseball player who ends up wrapped in a world of crime, now struggling to survive in 1990s New York City. Caught Stealing is directed by Black Swan‘s Darren Aronofsky and features a leading cast including Liev Schreiber, Zoe Kravitz, Austin Butler, Griffin Dunne, Vincent D’Onofrio, Matt Smith, Regina King, and D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai.
Now, new photos and videos from @9chocolantan, @EmiEleode, and @Alien8n show Smith and Butler in Caught Stealing. The first video shows Butler in a blue jacket and jeans, getting into a grey car. Smith has a more drastic look for the second video, which shows the actor wearing a mohawk died yellow-orange. He stands outside the same car Butler got into in the previous video. @EmiEleode revealed pictures of the pair, giving a better look at Smith’s garb, while @Alien8n showed a picture just of Smith.
What These Photos Mean For Caught Stealing
Smith Has A Dramatic Transformation
While it is exciting to see both actors on the set of Caught Stealing, Smith is the one who goes through the most dramatic transformation. It is not unlike Smith to have notable hair changes. He most recently wore pale white locks for House of the Dragon season 2, which aired this summer. This punk-rock, mohawk look, however, is very different from that of his typical hair. Thus, it will be interesting for audiences to see Smith in a very different kind of role in Caught Stealing.
These set photos and videos also reveal that Caught Stealing is actively filming in New York City. The film is set in this location, so the fact that they are shooting there reveals that at least parts of the film will be on location. There has not yet been a release date revealed for Caught Stealing. With the film shooting right now, however, it seems likely that Caught Stealing will come some time next year, though when exactly it hits theaters in 2025 remains unknown.
Caught Stealing Is A Return To Form For Darren Aronofsky
The Director Is Experienced With Thrillers
The premise of Caught Stealing puts the film securely in the thriller genre. I’ve loved this director’s other thrillers, including the 2010 Oscar-winner Black Swan. Aronofsky’s previous narrative feature, The Whale, stayed more neatly in the drama genre, chronicling protagonist Charlie in a non-thrilling manner. As a result, Caught Stealing can act as an exciting return-to-form for the director, as he explores the thriller genre once again.
