Scream 7 Release Date Confirmed

Scream 7‘s release date has now been confirmed as the slasher sequel inches closer. After the success of Scream (2022) and Scream 6 (2023), Ghostface is set to return in a seventh film, with original movie writer Kevin Williamson set to direct. Scream 7‘s release has faced a number of setbacks, including the loss of stars Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, as well as original director Christopher Landon, but the film is now full steam ahead with Neve Campbell set to reprise her role as original final girl Sidney Prescott.

Campbell now takes to Instagram to reveal that Scream 7 will arrive in theaters on February 27, 2026. The post, which Williamson also shared on his own profile, includes a graphic of Friday, February 27, on a calendar, with Ghostface’s signature knife stabbed into it next to some blood spots. Check out her post below:

It’s gonna be a killer 2026,” Campbell writes in her caption, including a Scream 7 hashtag.

What The 2026 Release Means For Scream 7

The Film Is Already Controversial

Now confirmed to release in February 2026, Scream 7 will be arriving just under three years after the well-reviewed Scream 6, which hit theaters in March 2023. This release came just over a year after the release of 2022’s Scream, which bowed in January. Releasing in the first quarter of the year, then, is a bit of a franchise pattern, and it’s one that served both previous installments well at the box office, with Scream 6, for example, grossing $166.3 million.

The release date also suggests that Scream 7 is moving forward free from the behind-the-scenes drama that plagued it for a number of months. The issues started in November 2023 with the firing of Barrera, who played Sam Carpenter in the two most recent movies, for fiery social media posts regarding the Israel-Hamas conflict. This news was followed by the departure of Ortega (Tara Carptenter) due to what is reported to be some combination of scheduling conflicts and a pay dispute.

In December 2023, it was then announced that Landon (Happy Death Day) was departing the film due to these behind-the-scenes issues. With Campbell reprising her role as Sidney, Williamson directing, and a release date having been confirmed, Scream 7 finally seems to be on the right track. As far as a filming start date, the 2026 release suggests the movie won’t start shooting until some point in 2025.

Our Take On Scream 7’s New Release Date

Why A Three-Year Break Between Movies Could Be A Good Thing

With both Barrera and Ortega having left the Scream 7 cast for one reason or another, the upcoming film faces an uphill battle, with sentiment on social media seeming to skew mostly negative. Having more than a year between now and the movie’s release could help some of this blow over as the distance from the controversial departures becomes greater.

After two Scream movies releasing so close together in 2022 and 2023, having a three-year break between installments could also help increase anticipation and avoid franchise fatigue. With Scream 7 now not arriving until 2026, the first promotional images and a trailer for the movie may not arrive until this time next year.
