Deadpool & Wolverine Passes Huge Marvel Box Office Milestone & Is Just m Away From Another MCU Scalp

As its digital release draws inevitably closer, Deadpool & Wolverine has earned one of the top 5 domestic hauls for MCU movies, moving past The Avengers in the process. With no end date to the Marvel sequel’s theatrical run yet confirmed, another huge box office milestone is less than $20m away.

According to the latest box office data, Deadpool & Wolverine took $3.8m this weekend to bring the total take to an astonishing $1,316,684,625. Performance is inevitably slowing, as Shawn Levy’s movie nears two months in theaters, but it still ranked in the weekend’s top 5, taking within $700k of new release Never Let Go.

What Deadpool & Wolverine’s Box Office Means For The MCU

Black Panther’s Box Office May Just Be In Reach

Overall, Deadpool & Wolverine has now taken $627 million domestically and $689 million overseas, and it sits as the 7th highest MCU movie box office take behind only the Avengers movies, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Black Panther. Widely hailed as the “Marvel Jesus” of the MCU, as Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson promised, industry commentary suggests Deadpool & Wolverine has had a transformative effect on the franchise’s recent fortunes after The Marvels‘ failure.

Black Panther‘s massive $1,334,157,082 box office take is now in sight, and if Deadpool & Wolverine continues on its current trajectory, it may well surpass the 2018 release. Early projections said the sequel would have an upper limit of between $1.3-1.4bn, as long as it over-performed. That over-performance is now confirmed.

Our Take On Deadpool & Wolverine’s Box Office Performance

While there’s not yet a digital release date – either for VOD or Disney+ – it’s not at all surprising that Marvel Studios are keeping Deadpool & Wolverine in theaters. $3.8m almost two months after release speaks to impressive longevity. Gone are the days of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial spending 16 weeks at number one (in multiple stints), particularly with digital releases coming quickly after initial release, so having long legs is an impressive feat.

The cumulative impact is also something that has to be considered too: while Deadpool & Wolverine‘s box office is no guarantee for Captain America: Brave New World‘s performance early in 2025, larger audiences imply greater brand strength as Marvel move towards the key multiverse projects of Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars. It surely won’t be long until we hear of the home release dates, but even then, Marvel would be foolish to take Deadpool & Wolverine out of theaters for a while yet.
