Transformers Star Joins Rebecca Ferguson & Idris Elba In Netflix’s Thriller Movie From Oscar-Winning Director

A Transformers actor joins Rebecca Ferguson and Idris Elba in a new film from Kathryn Bigelow. Bigelow is best known for movies like Point Break (1991), The Hurt Locker (2008), and Zero Dark Thirty (2012). Her most recent film is Detroit (2017), which chronicled the civil unrest in Detroit in 1967. Now, she’s partnered with Netflix for a new thriller, penned by Noah Oppenheim, which is reported to take place in the White House as ballistic miles head for America.

Deadline now reports that Anthony Ramos, who recently appeared in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (2023) and Twisters (2024) has joined Bigelow’s upcoming Netflix thriller. No details have been released about Ramos’ role, but the report does reinforce earlier claims that the film will take place at the White House in the midst of a national crisis. Ferguson and Elba are confirmed to appear in the movie as well, but it’s not yet clear who they will be playing.

What Ramos’ Casting Means For Bigelow’s Next Movie

While there may not be many details available regarding Bigelow’s next movie, Ramos’ casting confirms that the film will feature an impressive roster of acting talent. In addition to Ferguson, Elba, and Ramos, the project is expected to feature Jared Harris, Moses Ingram, Greta Lee, Tracy Letts, and Gabriel Basso. Though Ferguson and Elba will seemingly be the two primary leads, the rest of the cast makes the movie something of an ensemble project.

Ramos’ star power has been on the rise in recent years. He’s had smaller roles in movies like A Star Is Born (2018), Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019), and Hamilton (2020). He would then appear in In The Heights (2021) in a more prominent role, before playing lead character Noah in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, which currently sports an impressive 91% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Though Ramos didn’t lead the Twisters cast, he does feature prominently opposite Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar Jones, and that movie has also been warmly received. Ramos, then, will be right at home among the impressive cast members of Bigelow’s new movie.

Our Take On Ramos Joining Bigelow’s New Movie

Why The Netflix Thriller Could Mark An Exciting Change For The Actor

Though Transformers: Rise of the Beasts wasn’t a commercial hit, it did prove that Ramos has leading-man potential. As a powerful supporting actor as well, Ramos is sure to be a fixture of Hollywood for the foreseeable future, and appearing in Bigelow’s movie could be a major step forward.

Bigelow hasn’t made a movie in six years, but she has, in the last few decades, tackled almost exclusively serious subject matter in her films. After two lighter popcorn flicks, it could be refreshing to see Ramos in what could end up being a tense and dark political war thriller. With most of the core cast having now been assembled, more details about Bigelow’s new movie will hopefully be revealed in the coming months.
