Classic characters, including E.T. and Godzilla, replace an adorable viral hippo in some new images. Godzilla has been the main focus of multiple films recently, with appearances including roles in the Japanese film Godzilla Minus One and the Hollywood MonsterVerse film Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Godzilla Minus One was particularly critically acclaimed, and did well during its international theatrical jaunt. The film even went on to get a special release in black and white, and win an Oscar for Best Visual Effects.
Now, an image from @kkopzoo reimagines key movie images with a viral hippopotamus. The images replace key movie iconography with this hippo name Moo Deng. In one poster, the hippo rides in a bicycle basket, much like E.T. did in Steven Spielberg’s beloved film E.T. In another image, the hippo stands in the place of where a small raptor would be in Jurassic World. In the last two images, Moo Deng takes on the role of Godzilla, stalking a boat in one image and then, in another, facing up against Godzilla.
What These Images Mean In Pop Culture
Moo Deng Is A Hippo From Thailand
As the caption for the post references, these reimagined movie posters use imagery of a viral hippo named Moo Deng. Moo Deng is a baby pygmy hippopotamus that lives in the Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Bang Phra, Thailand. Pictures of Moo Deng recently took the internet by storm, and the hippo became viral. Now, Moo Deng is a TikTok star, and images of her have circulated through various memes online.
These Godzilla, E.T., and Jurassic World reimaginings are some of the latest in the growing catalogue of Moo Deng memes. Even in these four images, there is a wide variety of coverage for classic films, for the hippo takes on a wide range of parts. At one moment, the cute Moo Deng is transformed into a formidable beast when she has to face up against a kaiju monster. But her sweeter side is shown as she has to bond with Elliot for her bike ride in the E.T. shot.
What Is Next For Godzilla?
There Is Another Upcoming MonsterVerse Film
Much like Moo Deng herself, these images charmed me, offering a fresh take on these memes. Jokes aside, however, these Moo Deng memes are a good reminder of something we can all get excited for: another Godzilla-featuring MonsterVerse movie. After the box office success of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, there is an untitled sequel in the works. Said sequel is slated to hit theaters on March 26, 2027. While few details have been revealed about this New Empire sequel, the release date means that Godzilla will see the light of day again, albeit not battling a hippo.
