Will Smith & Tommy Lee Jones Are Back To Fight Aliens In Men In Black 5 Concept Trailer

Agents K and J never retired in a newly released Men in Black 5 concept trailer. The franchise stars Will Smith (Agent J) and Tommy Lee Jones (Agent K) and was first introduced to audiences in 1997. The original movie saw Smith as an inexperienced rookie working alongside Jones’ gruff veteran. It would go on to earn $590 million at the box office on a budget of just $90 million. The franchise has boasted sustained success, but Men in Black 5 has not been confirmed, though Sony is reportedly developing the blockbuster follow-up.

In a concept trailer developed by YouTuber KH Studio with the help of AI, the two agents reunite as Agent K steps out of retirement. With an alien threat coming to wage war against humanity, the stars are asked to reunite to save the world. The story would take place a decade after Men in Black 3 and would see F. Gary Gray (Men in Black: International) as the director. With so much detail, it truly appears to be a reflection of a real trailer:

What The Men In Black 5 Concept Trailer Reveals

The trailer reintroduces the stars of the first movie, which is not completely necessary. The idea of Men in Black movies without Jones and Smith is possible, and it has even been done before with 2019’s International. The decision did create a massive decline at the box office, however. Without Jones and Smith attached, the movie earned just $254 million at the box office, which is a disappointing take that fell nearly $200 million below Men in Black II, the previous lowest-grossing movie. The overall box office hints at a need for Jones and Smith to work together:

Title

Box Office

Budget

Men in Black (1997)

$590 million

$90 million

Men in Black II (2002)

$442 million

$140 million

Men in Black 3 (2012)

$655 million

$225 million

Men in Black: International (2019)

$254 million

$110 million

Since Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson were not enough to lead the franchise, a return to the original stars could be needed. One issue remaining is that the 78-year-old Tommy Lee Jones may struggle in a leading role with a significant action component. That is not necessarily a deal-breaker. He has continued to be willing to take part in action-thrillers, as he is currently in the production of The Razor’s Edge. If provided with enough incentive, he could choose to return to the franchise. As this trailer is not official, there is not yet word on whether he will return.

Our Take On The Men In Black 5 Concept Trailer

The trailer is more than enough to promote excitement for the movie, even if it is not actually produced by Sony. It has been 12 years since the last major appearance of the original agents, so a reunion could certainly be in order. After the disappointing International results, it is time to see the franchise return to its roots. The concept trailer offers some insight into what that might be and makes for a fascinating movie. Should Men in Black 5 ever be released, it may very well look exactly like this trailer.
