According to Variety, the sequel to Wicked has officially moved up its release date. Instead of coming out on November 26, 2025, Wicked 2 will release on November 21, 2025. This will be a debut that’s five days earlier than the release of its main contender, Zootopia 2, the highly anticipated Disney sequel.

While Wicked will still have to face competition from the upcoming Gladiator II, also coming out November 22, 2024, it’s better than facing another musical that’s also a highly anticipated sequel.

Opening weekends make or break a film, so changing release dates is standard behavior that usually comes with promising results. However, Wicked 2‘s success is not only dependent on its opening weekend, but also on the success of its predecessor.
