This incredible Star Wars cosplay from Rose City Comic Con perfectly brings an Inferno Trooper from Star Wars: Battlefront II to life. Although the Inferno Squad hasn’t made an appearance in Star Wars canon movies and TV shows, these troopers have become incredibly popular. Moreover, their absence in Star Wars’ shows and movies doesn’t indicate a lack of importance. Rather, the Inferno Squad became major players at key points in the Star Wars timeline, including by playing a role in Emperor Palpatine’s sinister Operation: Cinder.
One Star Wars cosplayer perfectly brought the Inferno Squadron to life at Rose City Comic Con, donning the iconic trooper suit. The cosplayer, cedarlau87 on Instagram, truly does have the intimidating Inferno Trooper captured down to the last detail, including the helmet’s unsettling red eyes.
It’s thrilling to see this trooper from Battlefront II come to life, particularly as it reinforces how often brilliant Star Wars concepts are being introduced outside the franchise’s canon shows and movies.
Some Of Star Wars’ Best Stories Happen Off-Screen
In truth, many of the best Star Wars stories—canon and Legends—happen not in the movies and TV shows but in the franchise’s other genres. Most recently, Star Wars’ newly released video game, Star Wars Outlaws, has introduced a number of incredible updates to the franchise, including revealing when the Purge of Mandalore took place and where Ahsoka was in the original trilogy. Indeed, despite being revealed only in the Star Wars game, both of these updates had major implications for Star Wars more broadly.
Many of the most beloved Star Wars Legends stories have also happened only in the franchise’s books, including the introduction of now beloved characters Mara Jade and Grand Admiral Thrawn. In fact, Thrawn is an excellent example of how these off-screen stories can come to life on the big and small screens, as Thrawn has now appeared in multiple canon Star Wars TV shows and is primed to be the main villain in the upcoming The Mandalorian & Grogu movie. Moreover, while Mara Jade hasn’t entered canon (and isn’t likely to), she remains a fan-favorite character in the franchise.
In truth, Star Wars Legends has introduced a number of characters and stories that stand out as among the franchise’s best, even if, like Mara Jade, they are unlikely to ever become canonized. Among these are the Legends stories of Luke Skywalker and Darth Plagueis. Although both are canon characters, their Legends stories are thrilling and can’t be found in Star Wars movies or TV shows. In Luke Skywalker’s case, his Legends story involves him becoming Grand Master of the new Jedi Order. For Plagueis, Legends reveals so much more about his history than Star Wars canon has.
These examples, in addition to Inferno Squad in Battlefront II, reveal that there is so much more to Star Wars than just what is featured in the canon movies and TV shows. Rather, Star Wars comics, video games, and books (canon and otherwise) all offer thrilling plotlines that deserve as much recognition as the well-known movies and shows.
