Eden First Images: 4 Marvel Stars & James Bond Alum Lead Star-Studded Cast In Survival Thriller

New images from Eden showcases its dazzling cast. The upcoming Ron Howard movie is based on a true story of three disparate groups of European settlers attempting to live on Floreana island in Ecuador’s Galápagos Archipelago. Although the movie has a limited cast due to its premise, it is still star-studded, featuring a robust ensemble that includes Captain Marvel‘s Jude Law, The Fantastic Four: First Steps‘s Vanessa Kirby, Captain America: Civil War‘s Daniel Brühl, Madame Web‘s Sydney Sweeney, No Time to Die‘s Ana de Armas, All Quiet on the Western Front‘s Felix Kammerer, and The Bikeriders‘ Toby Wallace.

Vanity Fair has unveiled a new collection of exclusive first-look images from Eden. The first image showcases a shirtless Jude Law as Dr. Friedrich Ritter, carving fruit in a seemingly bucolic scene next to Vanessa Kirby as his wife Dora, who moved to the island in an attempt to heal her multiple sclerosis via meditation. The next image reveals one major reason their peace is disturbed, as Ana de Armas’ flamboyant “Baroness” Eloise Bosquet de Wagner Wehrhorn arrives carried by her loyal admirers, played by Felix Kammerer and Toby Wallace.

The third image shows the Baroness seemingly attempting to put on a show to entertain the gathered community while at dinner, while the fourth is a behind-the-scenes image showcasing Ron Howard directing Daniel Brühl and Sydney Sweeney, who are in costume. Sweeney is playing German housewife Margaret Wittmer while Brühl is playing her husband Heinz. See the full gallery of images below:

What These First-Look Images Mean For Eden

The Movie Is Different From Ron Howard’s Previous Survival Thrillers

This gallery of first-look images reveals quite a bit about the upcoming true story survival movie. In addition to showcasing the cast and the costumes, as well as the fact that the time period is set at the same time as the story of the real-life figures being depicted onscreen, in 1929, it reveals how the movie will differ from some of Howard’s other survival stories, which include the 1995 astronaut thriller Apollo 13 and the 2015 seafaring adventure movie In the Heart of the Sea.

Both Apollo 13 and In the Heart of the Sea were also based on true stories, with the latter being the event that inspired the novel Moby Dick.

While there will be hardship in store for the characters in the Ana de Armas movie, these images reveal that they are in many ways better supplied than the characters in either of Howard’s previous outings in the genre. This likely means that the biggest hardships will come from their interactions with one another rather than major deprivation of supplies, at least toward the beginning of their story.

So far, there have been few glimpses of Eden ahead of the movie’s world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 7. However, as the movie approaches its first major screening, these images reveal the unique community that will be brought to life onscreen. While the complete tone of the movie has yet to be revealed, it seems that the intensity of the survival situation will also be accompanied by a vein of humor, especially as it pertains to the Baroness character, providing a multifaceted experience.
