Wesley Snipes’ Original Blade Costume Upgraded In Deadpool & Wolverine Concept Art

Summary

  • Marvel concept artist Wes Burt shares alternate Blade costumes for Deadpool & Wolverine.
  • Blade’s alternate costumes include a 1998 movie outfit, a samurai suit, a trenchcoat, and a leather outfit.
  • All of Blade’s alternate outfits look more elaborate than the costumes Wesley Snipes’ Blade wears in his movie trilogy and Deadpool & Wolverine.

Marvel concept artist reveals what Blade’s alternate MCU costumes looked during Deadpool & Wolverine‘s development. Wesley Snipes made his MCU debut as one of Deadpool & Wolverine‘s multiversal characters, appearing in the Void as a pruned Blade variant who joins forces with other survivors to oppose Cassandra Nova. Blade fought Cassandra Nova’s henchmen, helped Deadpool & Wolverine escape the Void, and dropped one of Deadpool & Wolverine‘s funniest easter eggs in the form of a jab at the MCU’s Blade.

On Instagram, Marvel concept artist Wes Burt shares a few pieces of Deadpool & Wolverine concept art featuring Wesley Snipes’ Blade. Burt’s images include a Blade costume that looks similar to the one the vampire hunter wears in 1998’s Blade movie, a samurai-inspired suit, a trenchcoat, and a leather outfit. How Blade’s Deadpool & Wolverine Costume Compared To His Original Movies

Wesley Snipes’ Blade Wears Much More Armor In Deadpool & Wolverine

Blade’s costume in Deadpool & Wolverine sports a similar look to his original costume. Its black-and-burgundy color scheme, with a silver rhombus shape on the chest, resembles the vampire hunter’s outfit from Blade: Trinity. Blade’s burgundy and silver accents are smaller this time around, but they’re a neat display of attention to detail, as they suggest that Blade’s Deadpool & Wolverine costume is an evolved version of his last on-screen outfit.

Deadpool & Wolverine Ending Explained

Deadpool & Wolverine’s ending is filled with multiversal stakes, insane cameos, and big teases for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Blade’s new costume ditches the black leather trenchcoat and replaces it with armor plates. It’s unknown whether this Blade variant was pruned with his Blade: Trinity outfit and later updated his clothes with armor he designed in the Void, or if he spent more than twenty years fighting vampires and upgrading his costume until he was pruned and thrown into the Void. Either way, Blade is clearly older and chooses to exchange agility for protection.

Blade’s alternate costumes provide material for other variants somewhere out there in the multiverse

Blade’s alternate concept art costumes would have hinted at very different backstories. Had Deadpool & Wolverine used any of those looks, Wesley Snipes’ Blade probably would have had lived more extravagant experiences in between the events of the poorly received Blade: Trinity and his battle against Cassandra Nova’s forces. From mastering the katana (and getting a facial scar) to developing military skills and possibly becoming a vampire-killing priest, Blade’s alternate costumes provide material for other variants somewhere out there in the multiverse.
