Skyler Gisondo as the DC Universe‘s Jimmy Olsen gets revealed in new official Superman photos from James Gunn. A new era is on its way for the DC brand, with Gunn’s DC Universe set to replace the old DCEU movie timeline, which concluded in 2023. The first film that will roll out from DC Studios’ new continuity will be the Superman movie with David Corenswet as the next cinematic version of the DC icon.
With the Superman movie currently in post-production and on track for its July 2025 release, Gunn took to his social media pages to celebrate the official DC Comics anniversary of Jimmy Olsen. While honoring the character’s debut in the comics several decades ago, Gunn also revealed a new look at Skyler Gisondo’s version in the DC Universe.
Gisondo was spotted as the iconic Daily Planet photographer in Superman set photos, which gave a glimpse of the other staff members. By the time the Superman movie is released, Gisondo will be the 10th actor to have ever played Jimmy in live-action Superman/DC-related films and TV shows.

How The Superman Movie Is Implementing The Daily Planet Cast
While many live-action Superman TV shows and movies have featured the Daily Planet crew in various degrees, the DC Universe film will be the biggest project in a while to feature this many members of the newspaper. Even though Superman will not be doing the traditional origin story, the movie explores Clark Kent in his early days as both a superhero and a reporter. With journalism being a massive aspect of the Superman mythology, Gunn is putting a bigger focus on The Daily Planet that will be able to run throughout the entire DC Universe.
For some of the confirmed cast members, Superman will be the first time their characters are featured in a movie at all, as Cat Grant and Ron Troupe haven’t appeared in previous film adaptations. Superman also marks the second time a live-action movie features Steve Lombard, who was briefly seen in 2013’s Man of Steel. The fact that Gunn is going to these lengths to build Clark’s work environment as extensively as he has is exciting, especially since this is meant to be the start of a long-running franchise for DC Studios.

The bigger question is when will Gunn be ready to release the first Superman movie trailer, as the film wasn’t part of San Diego Comic-Con this year due to them still filming at the time. The movie’s first footage will likely indicate more how integral The Daily Planet will be to Clark’s overall story, along with teasing the new DC Universe. Hopefully, by the end of 2024, the world will have gotten to see something from Gunn’s Superman film.
